About

I love this work. That's the most important thing I can tell you.

I've spent ten years sitting with people in the most tender, difficult, and transformative moments of their lives. I never stop being grateful for it.

A bit about me

I'm Amy Griswold Singer (she/her), a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Hayes Valley, San Francisco. I hold a Master's in Integral Counseling Psychology from CIIS, trained at the Bay Area Gestalt Institute, and am a certified Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy provider and Conscious Uncoupling coach.

Before I became a therapist, I spent a decade in education — preschool through college — which shaped how I understand human development, learning, and what people need to actually grow. I came to this work with a belief that people are capable of far more than they can usually see in themselves, and ten years of practice have only deepened that conviction.

I have also spent my adult life going inward on purpose. Years of my own therapy, Gestalt work, Holotropic Breathwork, mindfulness practice, ritual, and my own Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy — I have delved into my own psyche deliberately, and by many routes. What I offer, I offer out of both that lived experience and my training and licensure. For me the two have never been separate.

I work from a depth-oriented, relational foundation. I draw on Gestalt, psychodynamic, transpersonal, and humanistic modalities. I'm also a trained practitioner in somatic awareness, mindfulness-based approaches, and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. But more than any method, what I bring is presence — full, attuned, authentic engagement with who you are and what you're carrying.

What I believe about this work

Feelings aren't emergencies.
They're information.

Most of us were never taught that. We were taught to push through, minimize, manage, or explain away what we feel. And so we carry it instead, year after year, until it starts running us from the inside.

Therapy with me is a process of naming what's there — not to dwell, but to finally understand. When you can see the map of your own inner world — your patterns, your beliefs, the places where you hold on and the places where you collapse — you can begin to move differently. Not through willpower alone, but through genuine self-knowledge.

I think of what I do as building scaffolding with you. Not fixing you. Not solving you. Building a strong internal structure — made of self-respect, self-compassion, and honest self-awareness — so that when life does what it does, you have somewhere to stand.

What I bring to the room

Presence. Genuine curiosity. A non-judgmental witness who is actually paying attention. I map you — your patterns, your history, your defenses, your gifts. I hold all of it with care and I reflect it back. I fall in love with the maps of my clients. I find each person endlessly interesting, and that interest doesn't fade.

I also bring structure. I believe in weekly sessions. I believe in the container — the consistent, committed space where real work can happen. Therapy that happens whenever it's convenient tends to produce results that feel the same way. My clients attend their regularly scheduled session, and that rhythm is part of what makes the work go deep.

What ten years has taught me

I'm most proud of the people I've worked with over long arcs of time. The ones who came in one version of themselves and left a different, larger one. The ones who finished and came back because life happened again. The ones who called one day and told me about something that started in our work together that they hadn't connected until years later.

I've learned that the work doesn't always look linear. Sometimes the most important sessions are the ones that feel like nothing happened. Sometimes a breakthrough arrives on a random Tuesday. And I've learned that people are more capable of transformation than they believe — every single time.

Fit

Who I work best with — and who this might not be for.

I work with adults who are willing. Willing to look, willing to sit with discomfort, willing to return week after week, even when they feel resistant. My clients are open-minded, curious about themselves, and — usually — at least a little bit on their knees about something. That's not a weakness. That's the starting point.

I work with a full caseload of committed weekly clients. I don't work well with a casual, whenever-I-feel-like-it approach — not because I'm rigid, but because I've seen what consistency makes possible and I care too much about your progress to take a different shape. If you're looking for a space to drop in occasionally, I may not be the right fit. If you're looking for a relationship that can actually change something, let's talk.
