Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Sometimes the path to change needs a new road in.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) can make possible in weeks what traditional therapy alone sometimes takes years to reach.

I've been doing this work for ten years. I know what committed, deep therapy looks like — and I know how long some shifts can take. When I trained in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, I recognized something I'd been waiting for: a way to help people access genuine transformation with a new kind of speed, depth, and grace. This work is swift. It's gorgeous. And the results are real.

I also come to this work as a client. For about two years I have done my own Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy with Journey Clinical's medical team, and after decades of my own talk therapy I found shifts arriving that were distinct — and that arrived swiftly. I don't offer this because I read about it. I offer it because I know what it opened in me.

I offer KAP in partnership with Journey Clinical's medical team, who handle all aspects of your medical care. My role is the psychotherapy — the preparation, the presence, and the integration that makes the experience meaningful and lasting.

The basics

What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is a holistic modality that uses ketamine — a legal, well-established anesthetic medication in use since 1970 — as a complement to psychotherapy. Its use in psychotherapy is off-label, prescribed and monitored by Journey Clinical’s medical team. It works by temporarily reducing the brain's habitual defenses, creating a window of expanded perception and neurological flexibility during which meaningful psychological shifts actualize.

Ketamine works by blocking NMDA receptors and stimulating AMPA receptors in the brain, which supports the formation of new neural connections and boosts circuits that regulate mood and stress. It also enhances overall neuroplasticity — the brain's ability to reorganize itself — for lasting improvement beyond the session itself.

The result: clients often experience, in a single session, breakthroughs that might otherwise take months or years to access. And those shifts tend to stick.

What does a session actually feel like?

The form of ketamine I offer is a sublingual lozenge — held in the mouth, not injected. The effects begin within 20–30 minutes and last approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

During a session, you'll be reclining in a comfortable position, wearing an eyeshade and listening to carefully chosen music. Many clients describe the experience as a release from the ordinary weight of their thoughts — a feeling of expansion, of being unburdened by daily concerns, of perceiving themselves and their lives from a broader vantage point.

Your motor and verbal abilities will be somewhat reduced during the peak, which is why you rest and receive. I'm present with you throughout — holding space, attuned to you, available if anything arises. Once the effects subside, we move into processing: what arose, what was seen, what it means.

Studies have shown that the benefits to mood and neurological growth can last up to two weeks after each KAP session — a window during which integration therapy deepens and anchors the shifts.

The process

How the process unfolds.

Medical intake with Journey Clinical

Before we begin, you'll schedule an initial evaluation with Journey Clinical's medical team. They'll review your medical and psychiatric history, provide education on the treatment, and determine your eligibility. If eligible, they'll create a personalized ketamine prescription and treatment plan, and a small supply of sublingual lozenges will be sent to your home.

Preparation session with me

Before your first dosing session, we'll meet for a preparation session — just like a regular therapy session — to align on intentions, answer any questions, and set the stage for your experience. This conversation matters. What you bring consciously to the session shapes what is possible.

Dosing sessions · 6–8 sessions

Dosing sessions take place in my office or remotely via Zoom, over 1–2 hours. You'll self-administer your ketamine lozenge, recline comfortably, and move through the experience with me present. You can choose to do fewer sessions, though a full course yields the most comprehensive and lasting results.

Integration sessions · 6–8 sessions

After each dosing session, we meet for integration therapy — the same format as our regular sessions, with the added dimension of what emerged during your ketamine experience. This is where insight becomes understanding, and understanding becomes change. Integration is not optional. It's where the work lives.

Ongoing medical follow-up

Journey Clinical's team checks in with you regularly — at minimum quarterly — to monitor your response and manage your prescription.
